3 Tips to Keep Your Driveway Always Looking Like New

Manorville Driveway Pavers | Suffolk County Hardscape

When autumn comes, the world around you looks beautiful – colorful, bright and vibrant with multi-hued leaves everywhere. But did you know that those pretty leaves can do a lot of damage to your driveway and sidewalks? When you leave leaves on your driveway, it can cause stains and become extremely slippery when it gets wet.

Before the rain starts, it is important to make sure that you rake or blow the leaves off your walkway, driveway and sidewalk. You can make good use of the leaves by creating a compost that you can use for your yard. You can also collect the leaves in paper bags – do this only with dry leaves as damp ones can rip the paper bag – or leave them on the grass in your yard.

How to Keep Your Driveway As Good As New

Do you have stains on your driveway because you did not clear it for a long time? Well, do not worry as there are a few helpful tips that you can use to help you clean your driveway and make it look as good as new:

  • Pressure or Power Washing Works Wonders: While most homeowners use pressure or power washers to clean their home’s siding, you should know that these washers work extremely well for cleaning stained driveways, walkways or sidewalks. The combination of a cleanser and the powerful gush of water are especially effective when you need to remove tough stains. When you are done power washing with a cleanser, make sure that you do not forget to rinse your driveway, sidewalk, etc. with plain water to ensure that there is no streaking.
  • A Dish Soap or Laundry Detergent and Water Mixture is Effective: Are you unsure about using a pressure washer to clean your driveway? No problem! You can use a mixture of dish soap or laundry detergent and water to remove stains as well. Use a strong bristled broom or deck brush with the mixture to remove even the toughest stains. Make sure that you use plain water to rinse the driveway to remove the soap and prevent streaking. This will take some elbow grease, but worth it!
  • Use Sawdust, Baking Soda or Kitty Litter to Absorb Liquids: If you have kids in your home, they will no doubt play outside and more than likely spill various liquids on your driveway. You can use sawdust, baking soda or kitty litter to absorb the liquid. Allow the material you use to sit for a couple of days and then sweep away the rest. If this does not remove the stain, use one of the top two methods.

As you can see, getting rid of stains from your driveway is not as tough as you may think. With the right equipment and detergent, you can clean your driveway and make it look like new. Contact Long Island Poolscapes for a quote to custom build your driveway with pavers!
