Get Your Pool Ready for Summer!
Summer is almost here, is your pool ready? Before you open your pool for the summer, there are a few steps you need to take. To learn how to get your pool ready for summer, keep reading.
The first step you should take when opening your pool is removing the cover! Once the cover is taken off, clean your pool. Use a simmer to remove any debris that collected under the cover. You should also use a pool vacuum to clean the walls and floor of the pool. When vacuuming your pool, do so slowly. If you find algae during the cleaning process, use a nylon brush to remove it.
Up next, check the equipment associated with your pool. You want to make sure the pool’s filtration equipment is functioning properly. Look for o-rings and make sure they are all in place and undamaged. Lubricate these rings with a pool gasket lubricant to protect them, and replace any that are cracked or ripped. Following this step, flip your circuit breaker and turn on your pump. Switch the valve to filter and take a closer look at your pump and filter to make sure they are working correctly. Clean or replace any parts that are dirty or broken.
Don’t forget to test your water balance. Make sure the water chemistry is appropriate. If the levels are off, your water may look cloudy. Testing the chlorine during this step is also ideal. An appropriate chlorine level is between 1 and 3 ppm.
Lastly, perform a safety check. If you have a gate around your pool, make sure the door locks when it is closed. If you do not have a gate, you should install one just in case.
